Precision & Productivity - Volumetric Machine Compensation

Volumetric Compensation is an industry-accepted method for enhancing the performance of a machine tool. Volumetric performance is replacing axis accuracy as the accepted measure of machine tool positioning performance. Standards of measurement and methods on evaluation of volumetric accuracy are important in order to ensure each machine conforms to the required tight machining tolerances. With a defined volumetric accuracy figure for a process, Volumetric Compensation is used to obtain requisite accuracy throughout the volume. The combination of the axes increases the possibility of errors to 21 different types. 3 Errors possible related to squareness 9 Rotational errors possible 9 Translational errors possible Standards of measurement and methods on evaluation of volumetric accuracy are important in order to ensure each machine conforms to the required tight machining tolerances.
